1.Alusion
Maroon 5; "I've got the moves like Jagger"
~The lyrics are referring to themselves dancing or acting as Mick Jagger, therefore creating the illusion that Maroon 5 is excellent at dancing or behaving
2.Metaphores
"my heart's a stereo, it plays for you..."
The artist is implying that his heart is open to whomever that song was for.
3.Personification
"Rain falls angry on the tin roof"
The artist is giving a nonhuman noun, human traits. Rain can't really fall angrily, it just falls without emotion because it simply doesn't have emotions.

Song or Artist: Girl on Fire- Alicia Keys
Type of figurative language: Idiom, words used as an expression, not to be taken literally, its a more interesting expression or way to describe something.
Example in the song: "She's on top of the world..."
The girl isn't literally on top of the world, shes more at the top of her game, doing great. But it's more interesting to hear, "on top of the world", then doing well, succeeding.
Song or Artist: Heart attack- One Direction
Type of figurative language: Hyperbole, an exaggeration of a figure of speech, used to evoke strong feelings, but not to be taken literally.
Example in the song: "You're giving me a heartattack looking like you do."
The girl isn't giving him a literal heart attack, but the way she looks makes him happy and feeling things like that.
Song and artist: Stereo Hearts- Maroon 5
Type of figurative language: metaphor, describing something as it is, without using "like" or "as".
Ex: "My Heart's a stereo, It beats for you so listen close"
His heart isn't really a stereo, but it is beating like one, with the rhythm of the music, for someone.
Song or artist: Justin Bieber- All that matters
Type of figurative language: simile, comparing two things using "like" or "as".
Ex: "just as sure as the stars in the sky."
He's being very sure about something, like how he's sure the stars are always there

hyperbole: An exaggeration, stretching the truth.
Ex: Heart Attack by One direction. "You're giving me a heartattack looking like you do."
The girl isnt actually giving him a Heart Attack, he is clearly just exaggerating the feelings he has for her.
Idiom: Words used as an expression, not usually taken seriously.
Ex: Girl on Fire "She's on top of the world..."
The girl isn't literaly on top of the world, it is more of an expression to say that she is succeeding, but they want to add more expression to the lyrics.
Simile: feeling similar, normally sentences have words such as like, or as.
Ex: Katy Perry Firework " Do you ever feel like a plastic bag drifting through the wind wanting to start again"
She feels similar to a plastic bag, but isnt saying she is one. This lyric includes the word like, making it easier to tell its a simile.
